Initial planting of the orchard began in 2001 and there is around 1800 trees. The trees are now well
established and producing quality nuts.
Hazelnut market for small scale producers here in New Zealand is not economical,
we usually harvest enough nuts for local sale and our personal consumption, especially for Gabriela's home baked hazelnut biscuits and hazelnut-pear brownie. The nuts that stay on the ground are great tucker for our sheep and hell - they love them! Everybody who want's to pick up own nuts for free is most welcome by appointment during the harvest time from the end of March til the end of April.
Beekeeping at Purple Haze makes us important part of our environment and we are very proud to do so! Bees are associated with the production of food for humans (via pollination, but also honey), healing, and perhaps more than any other creatures - if not the only creatures, held up as setting a selfless example to mankind on organised society.

Your place to unwind before your next adventure
Since 2016 we host people from all over the world, we like to share our piece of paradise and we would like you to enjoy it the same way we do.

For the love of wood we created
our family project LGS Design where everybody gets involved with heart, hands or feet.
Fluffy plumage, which is said to feel like silk, the breed has several other unusual qualities, such as black skin, flesh, and bones, blue earlobes, and five toes on each foot.
Silkies are well known for their calm, friendly temperament. Among the most docile of poultry, Silkies are considered an ideal pet. Hens are also exceptionally broody and make good mothers.
